A Little Bit About Us...Forged from a long line of tradition the Centerville Fire District was incorporated in the State of New York in 1923. It serves the geographic area of the fire district within the Town of Saugerties, Ulster County, New York. The district is comprised for two independent, non-profit fire companies, Cedar Grove Fire Company, located on State Route 32, and Centerville Fire Company, located on State Route 212.
Along with a board of five elected commissioners, the district is under the control of a Chief Officer at all times. The Chief has reporting to him one Deputy Chief and two Station Chiefs, one for each fire station. Each station has a Captain and two Lieutenants (Line Officers). The Fire Police squad, made up of members from both stations, has a Captain and two Lieutenants. It is the mission of the Centerville Fire District to provide emergency services, within its response area, as follows;
The Centerville Fire District will not take mitigating actions at any emergencies not covered within in the scope of this organizational statement. The Centerville Fire District will respond to such incidents and take appropriate action to secure the area, deny entry and call for the appropriate resources trained to handle the given emergency. The Centerville Fire District will insure that its members will be properly trained to execute emergency services effectively and with the safety of its members and citizens as paramount. All members of the department will be required to maintain all O.S.H.A. training related to the Are service, and to refresh, at a minimum, with the Centerville Fire District annually. Training in all aspects of the services provided will be done by the Are district at least once a month for a minimum of two (2) hours. Training can also be conducted at the station level by the Station Chief and/or Line Officers at any time. Training in rope rescue will also be done in conjunction with other neighboring companies that have rope rescue teams. The Centerville Fire District is tasked with many mutual aid responses to surrounding area departments as well as into Greene County including Fast team, Truck Company, Heavy Rescue Company, Engine Company, and Rope Rescue Operations as part of the Twin Cloves Technical Rescue Team. Centerville has also filled many deployments over the past few years to some of the largest wild land fires and other natural disasters in our area including the Blooming Grove fire in Orange County this spring and to Long Island with an Engine Company for Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Training will also be provided through classes offered by the Office of Fire Prevention and Control as well as lectures and seminars as they become available. Each active member of the Centerville Fire District is required to attend a minimum of 10 hours of training a year. Chief and Line Officers are required to attend a minimum of 25 hours of training per year. Since the Centerville Fire District is 100% volunteer, its active membership varies from year to year. Historical data puts its membership at approximately 60 to 70 active Firefighters per year. |
